Author as Nurse of DongGang AnTai Hospital

Once upon a time, I have an impulse in my mind wondering I wanted to raise a helping hand and merit for people around the world. I was browsing the internet and end-up joining the TRMPC’s mission. I never take part in this kind of activity before and I wonder perhaps everything will be taken care just like my imagination. In fact, I even bring my blusher and powder with me along the mission. However, once we arrived in a village that is lack of water, it is impossible even to take a bath, so don’t mention about wiping lotions.

I start my journey to SANDIMEN with nervous and exiting mood. I have no idea where did my bravery come from as this is my first time, participating TRMPC’s mission. Although I used take part in other medical missionary with other volunteers that known each other well before we start our mission, however it is totally different this time. None of us get to know each other until the day we participate this mission.

The medical mission held by the hospital is totally different. All the basic necessities were under well arrangement in the past. However, the volunteers no matter drivers, cooks, photographers, doctors and nurses had to cooperate to complete everything in TRMPC’s mission, together.

Honestly, I would say all the TRMPC’s volunteers are really friendly and it has somehow eliminated my fear, though we’re stranger to each other. I am really impressed by the mutual help that showed by the volunteers during the mission. All of us have to forsake our rare holiday, just to take part in this meaningful event.

The cooks knelt down to prepare meals for us. Three meals of the day had somehow become my greatest expectations of the day. I’m a nurse handling nursing job in the hospital, but I have to assist in dental service which I am not familiar with. Luckily, I met a devoted companion that guided me with patience thus I can accommodate myself to the changed situation.

I started to have a lot of different sense after joining this medical mission. At night, we slept in a classroom that was once flooded by water and used to be attacked by strong winds in the past. Wind blew when we slept in our own sleeping bag and accompanied us into dream. Such a harsh and inconvenient environment is actually the daily living environment for the villagers on the mountain.

A Chinese Proverb once described “Stand and walk, is much better than sit and talk”. I totally agree with this proverb. The best way to learn about something is to experience it by your own. Remote villagers are satisfied even though their living environment contents nothing but broken and flattened walls. On the other hand, people in the city always fight against each other, stepping on others toes just because of their own benefit seems really pathetic to me. The mountain’s villagers live a happy life though their living environment is lack of temptation and resource.

Even though the mission only lasted for 3 days and 2 nights, but I’m really impressed especially when the villagers thank us frankly. I am sure, that my decision to participate this mission is true when I saw the smile on the children’s faces when they received little gifts. If there is any opportunity, I will surely join the TRMPC’s mission once again in the future as it is really meaningful to everyone.
