 Taiwan Root Medical Peace Corps.

Taiwan Root Medical Peace Corps. (TRMPC) was established in 1995 before the launch of Taiwan's National Health Insurance program to provide free medical services to people living in Taiwan's more remote, mountainous regions.

TRMPC's founder, dentist Liu Chi-chun, believes that "medical services should transcend national borders and exceed  the limitations of politics, race, and religion."  In 1999, TRMPC dispatched its first 26-member-strog overseas team to provide medical aid to Kosovar refugees in Macedonia.  Since then, the organization has gone on to provide free medical care to isolated populations and victims of natural disasters.  Each year, it donducts regular trips to developing countries to improve health facilities and living standards.  The organization estimates that, to date, its 6,000 volunteeers have treated around 100,000 patients.

In 2003, TRMPC became the first Taiwanese NGO to be invited to participate fully in the Conference of Non-governmental Organizations in Consultative Relationship with the United Nations.
